Blue Hills Trailside Museum

The Blue Hills Trailside Museum is a small natural history museum situated at the base of Great Blue Hill, owned by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and managed by Mass Audubon. It is the gateway to the 7000 acre Blue Hills Reservation. The museum features displays using native, non-releasable animals and offers a variety of educational programs.

Education Coordinator
Location: Milton, MA

Oversee and schedule all educational programs including weekend programs, school programs, group programs, workshops, scout programs, public programs, special events and summer camp.
Teach up to 10% of the educational programs.
Coordinate effective marketing strategies, promotional materials and publicity for all programs and events.
Oversee program staff and volunteers.
Develop new educational programs.
Strengthen existing partnerships with local schools and create new ones through networking and cooperative projects.
Exercise cultural competency at all levels by making ongoing efforts to engage diverse individuals, groups, and communities.

Level of Supervision

Work is performed under limited supervision.
Provide supervision and guidance to other staff, temporary seasonal staff, or volunteers.

Scope of Responsibility

Plan, market, and implement varied educational programs in conjunction with other staff or individually as appropriate. Has responsibility for developing and tracking budgets.

Teambuilding

Has responsibility for building a well-trained team of camp counselors and part-time educators.

Qualifications: Bachelor‘s degree in environmental, biological or natural sciences, environmental education, interpretation, natural resources, or resources management and three years of experience in environmental education/interpretive programming and one year of supervisory experience and budget management.
Applicants must possess strong communication and organizational skills, be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, and adjust to seasonal changes in workload.
This position requires a valid driver‘s license and clean driving record.
Experience using captive wildlife in educational programs is a plus but not required.
Demonstrated ability to promote and respect diversity including ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds and, physical and mental disabilities.
Ability to be a positive, constructive team member is vital.
Thorough knowledge of planning designing, marketing, scheduling, and evaluating environmental education programs.
Familiarity with region’s ecology.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Property Worker
Location: Milton, MA

Seeking a highly motivated individual to work with the Property Manager to care for the buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment at the Blue Hills Trailside Museum and Chickatawbut Hill Education Center.

Qualifications: Basic maintenance skills including knowledge of the safe operation, maintenance and care of power tools, equipment and vehicles. Cleaning and maintaining buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment to a high standard. A valid drivers license and the ability to carry out various property related duties such as lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, operate equipment such as mowers, tractors, trucks, assist in caring for live animal collection and provide sanctuary security by opening and closing grounds and facility on a daily basis. Perform other duties as requested by the Property Manager. Demonstrate the ability to work as a team with staff and volunteers and be willing to work a flexible schedule including one weekend day.

Benefits: 40 hrs a week with full benefit package.

Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary

Preschool Director/Lead Teacher
Location: Lincoln, MA

Drumlin Farm Community Preschool seeks a dynamic, energetic preschool director/lead teacher to work with a team of early childhood educators at our hands-on farm/nature-based preschool. Position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our multi-disciplinary curriculum as well as staff development, stewarding active parent-school relationships, program marketing, budget management and oversight of day-to-day operations. Individuals will work with Education Manager to implement, develop and oversee preschool program in accordance with Mass Audubon’s goals and objectives, as well as MA state regulations.

Position begins August-September 2008.

Qualifications: EEC Director I certification, MA or M.Ed degree in Early Childhood Education or relevant field, at least 5 years of experience working with preschool age children and 2-3 years of director level experience required. Experience in curriculum development, evaluation, staff supervision, and cooperative preschool programs highly desired. Teacher must possess a love of nature and teaching outdoors along with an eagerness to learn how to handle animals (both farm animals and wildlife) within an educational setting for children and families. Strong communication and collaboration skills a must.

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Education Coordinator I - 30 hours/week

Qualifications: Position requires a BA or BS in biology, natural science, environmental studies, or education field. Enthusiasm for teaching and general understanding/foundation in natural/human history of the region. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member. Solid computer skills, valid driver’s license. Candidate must be experienced in canoeing and able to lift canoes on and off racks. Position requires ability to walk on unimproved trails and lift 50 lbs.

School and Family Education Coordinator II
Location: Topsfield, MA

The 2,267-acre Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, energetic educator to coordinate our dynamic school and family education programs. Qualifications: Knowledge of New England ecology and familiarity with Massachusetts State Frameworks. Position requires a BA or BS in biology, natural science, environmental studies, or education field with strong science skills, plus three years of relevant experience in a nature center or school. Thorough knowledge of designing, scheduling and evaluating environmental programs and curriculum; supervisory experience, computer skills, valid driver’s license and ability to canoe or willingness to learn. Position requires ability to walk on unimproved trails and lift 50 lbs. A Tuesday through Saturday work schedule is preferred. Strong internal candidate.

Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary

Education Coordinator/Administrative Assistant
Location: Attleboro, MA

We’re seeking an energetic, enthusiastic person dedicated to the mission of Mass Audubon to assist with education programming, office management, and outreach activities at Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Various administrative tasks such as overseeing program registration, tracking income and expenses, greeting and orienting visitors, promoting memberships, producing and distributing public relations materials, and managing the gift shop.


  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with and presenting programs to local educational, cultural, and community-based institutions and organizations.


  • Developing and implementing on and off-site school programs, vacation week programs, family group programs, and summer day camp.


  • Aiding in design and running of special events.


  • Supervising volunteers working on projects in the nature center.

  • Qualifications: BA or BS in biology, environmental science, environmental education or a related field; strong knowledge of Massachusetts natural history; strong computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, graphics, and spreadsheet programs; excellent written and oral communication skills; interest in promoting Mass Audubon’s mission; superior people skills and enthusiasm for teaching.

Programs

Regional Director (Southeast/Islands Region)
Location: Lincoln, MA

A key member of Mass Audubon’s senior leadership, the Regional Director, whose region covers South Shore area, southeastern MA, Cape Cod and the Islands, has overall responsibility to ensure that programs/sites within the region are well-managed, fiscally responsible and strategically positioned to carry out Mass Audubon’s mission.

The Regional Director develops and guides Mass Audubon activity in the region to ensure that programmatic resources align with the organization’s conservation goals. The Regional Director raises funds and allocates resources - human and financial - within the region to achieve Mass Audubon objectives. He/she provides leadership and assistance to unit managers, reviews the performance of unit managers, as well as participates in the development and implementation of major Mass Audubon operating policy, budgets, and programs.

The Regional Director also demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt to and facilitate organizational change as well as an ability to promote, respect, and secure diversity of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds, and physical and mental abilities. To accomplish many of these responsibilities, the Regional Director will travel frequently throughout the Region, utilizing available workstation space at various nature centers.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 8 years management or related experience in conservation or related fields. Experience in the recruitment, management and development of professional staff, especially among under-represented groups, and the ability to organize, inspire, and support people with diverse skills and backgrounds to create a common program or shared result. Proven ability to raise funds, develop and implement plans and budgets, manage personnel, and follow through on strategies necessary to meet objectives. Excellent communications skills (written and oral) including representation of Mass Audubon in public meetings and ability to work with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
