School & Group Programs

Explore Your Natural World with Mass Audubon's South Shore Sanctuaries!

Educational Programs
The South Shore Sanctuaries offer a variety of environmental education programs for school children in Pre-K through sixth grade. Our education staff understands the importance of developing a child's sense of curiosity and wonder about the natural world. To help enhance these kinds of experiences, our programs are designed to guide inquiry through hands-on activities while using exploratory teaching techniques. We strive to cultivate a greater connection to the local environment, as well as foster an appreciation for the outdoors that continues far into the future. Our programs also provide support in helping teachers expand their curriculum in line with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and are designed to meet the needs of varying age groups.

Program Options
The diversity of habitats that encompass the three South Shore Sanctuary sites, in addition to local beaches and conservation land, allow for a unique learning experience outside the classroom. Field trips to any of one of these locations provide the opportunity for first-hand observation of the different wildlife and plant species. Led by a visiting naturalist, most program offerings can be adapted for a classroom presentation to meet your needs as well. These visits allow for a similar, investigative, hands-on learning experience. Please download our brochure for more specific information regarding program topics and fees.

Professional Development Opportunities
Our workshops focus on environmental education with a special emphasis on South Shore habitats and history. These programs will provide you with hands-on classroom and outdoor activities. We are a DOE approved PDP provider. Please contact the school education coordinator for current Professional Development series dates, themes and availability.
