Summer Camp Natural History Day Camp The Wellfleet Bay Natural History Day Camp is designed to promote a child’s lasting curiosity and concern for the natural world. Our goal is to instill awareness and appreciation of the natural world, to teach responsibility for the environment, and to promote an understanding of our place in nature. Camp activities are carefully planned to meet these goals and at the same time create a fun and memorable experience.
Campers range in age from 4-15, with some attending half a day, while others for a full day. We spend countless hours hiking our trails and exploring the Sanctuary. The older campers also travel off-site to kayak & snorkel in local waters, go on a whale watch or seal cruise, hike parts of the Cape Cod National Seashore, or shadow a field researcher for the day. Each week for each group is a different theme, so every week is unique!
This year is Wellfleet’s 50th year as a Mass Audubon Sanctuary. Our Day Camp started with just a few kids meeting in the barn and going off to explore the newly acquired 300 acres of protected land along Cape Cod Bay. Campers hiked through the woods, mucked through the marsh, went beachcombing on the tidal flats, and always kept their ears and eyes out for birds. It seems that not too much has changed in 50 years. Campers still enjoy these unique and pristine habitats and discovering all that inhabits them. Here’s looking forward to another 50 years of nature exploration and fun!
