Mass Audubon Releases 2007 Annual Report Dear Members and Friends, As we look back on a very successful year, it is our pleasure to highlight the vital role that people, places, and partners played in our accomplishments. Time and space do not permit us to list everyone and everything that helped us achieve our goals, so in honor of the year 2007, we have chosen 7 people, 7 places, and 7 partners to share with you. We hope that in reading these stories, you will gain an even deeper appreciation and understanding of the work Mass Audubon does and the countless ways that you—and people just like you— contribute to our mission. - Each year 750,000 children and adults connect with Mass Audubon, through people visiting our wildlife sanctuaries, children attending summer camps, naturalists teaching in school classrooms across the state, adults gaining skills from our educational programs, individuals supporting causes that they care deeply about, and many more important ways. With the 7 people, we want to give you a sense of those who help Mass Audubon in a variety of ways. One profile on page 3 focuses on the 325 volunteers who made our first-ever statewide volunteer day a huge success. (Yes, we know we cheated by counting this as one person.)
- Mass Audubon protects 33,000 acres of land, plus all of the wildlife and plants that call this land home. And this year, we worked with other organizations to help protect an additional 1,465 acres. Our commitment is for the long-term and does not stop with initial protection of important habitat. Stewardship, scientific research, and education continue long after the transfer of property. Inside this report you will read about 7 places that illustrate the diversity of our work and our mission—from the Berkshires to the Islands. Take a look at two new land protection projects, which resulted in an additional 1,300 acres saved from development (page 4).
- Our partnerships are too many to count. We could not do what we do without the support of each and every one of the individuals, organizations, businesses, government agencies, and foundations that make our work possible. Here are 7 partners without whom we would not have had the time, resources, or capacity to make it all happen. In many cases, such as the Cambridge Public School Program detailed on page 7, our work involves multiple partners, from schools, to other nonprofits, to foundations, to corporations. Now, that's the spirit of collaboration!
As you read about the progress we've made, know that we would not have so much good news to share if it were not for your dedication to Mass Audubon. Download Mass Audubon's 2007 Annual Report. (PDF 831K) With thanks for your continued support, Laura A. Johnson President | Jonathan Panek Chair |
